4 steps, all done by people

1. 1

   Raw material preparation

   Mussel shells are collected from the Chonburi community enterprise, cleaned, sorted, and graded by size.

2. 2

   Material processing

   The shiny inner layer (nacre) is separated from the rest of the shell (calcium carbonate) with the studio's own process.

3. 3

   Colour development

   Colours are planned and refined with digital tools to match each collection.

4. 4

   Finishing and testing

   Each surface is hand-finished by an artisan, then tested for strength and durability.

Every piece is assessed across three areas of impact

• Environment

  Thailand throws away more than 50,000 tonnes of mussel shell every year. This is the problem the studio works on.

• Social

  Income and skills go back to coastal communities in Chonburi province, through the Chonburi Fisheries Association and the Sawang Prateep Community Enterprise.

• Governance

  Each piece comes with an Impact Card that records where the material came from, who made it and how many hours went into it. Partnerships are written down and renewed every year.
